July is Echinoderm Month

What in the world is an echinoderm? These spiny skinned animals include sea stars, sea cucumbers, brittle stars, sand dollars and sea urchins. Come to the Roundhouse to learn about and touch these live animals. Check out our updated displays and artifact tables for detailed information on these spiny skinned creatures. Bring the little ones in during Sea Story time on Sundays at 11:30 for sea star crafts and stories.

A Volunteer’s Reflection

By Zoie Nagelhout

I thoroughly enjoyed my experience at the Roundhouse Aquarium. From the sea urchins to the sharks, I loved learning more about the animals and how they are in their natural environments. Talking to the public daily was an interesting and rewarding experience for me. You meet all kinds of people. It is an incredible feeling when you can light up people’s faces by showing or telling them something that they have never seen or heard before. Every time a family or a group comes into the aquarium, you create a sort of relationship with them in the hopes of brightening their day. I loved working at the Roundhouse and being around all of the animals. I would do it again in a heartbeat.
