What can we do about the Oil Spill in the Gulf?
Did you know that oil is still gushing into the ocean after two months!? It is estimated that over 125 million gallons might have already poured into the ocean (Associated Press). Hundreds of birds, sea turtles and fish have already been found covered in oil. Since most of us cannot fly to the Gulf of Mexico to help these animals as well as the people that depend on this area as a way of life, many either feel helpless or put it out of mind. However, there are many ways that we can help. Numerous nonprofit organizations are getting involved and you can help. Defenders of Wildlife, The National Wildlife Federation, Emerald Coastkeeper, and Greenpeace USA are among the nonprofits that you can donate your time or funds to in order to save these animals and the ocean. Its not only the animals that are affected, but plants and algae are also dying off. This is the same precious resource that produces over 80% of the oxygen that we breathe. We hope you consider donating your time and resources to help save our ocean.
