Coastal Cleanup Day September 20th

Help support our marine environment by participating in the largest environmental volunteer opportunity of the year. Coastal Cleanup Day is Saturday, September 20th from 9am-12. This year, since the AVP tournament is in Manhattan Beach, the Roundhouse Aquarium will be at El Porto Beach to take part in California’s 24th annual Coastal Cleanup Day. Come be a part of creating a healthier environment for yourself and your children. This is a great opportunity for families, friends, students, and service groups to come together to do something good for the environment. If you are interested in cleaning up the beach, all you need to do is show up at El Porto Beach at 9am ready to pick up trash! In 2007, more than 60,000 volunteers worked together to collect more than 900,000 pounds of trash and recyclables from our beaches, lakes, and waterways. Since the program started in 1985, over 800,000 Californians have removed more than 12 million pounds of debris from our state's shorelines and coast. Please come and support our ocean inhabitants! Keeping California Clean

Here are some ways that you can help reduce the amount of trash that ends up on the beaches and in the ocean.

· Reduce, reuse, and recycle at home at work and on the streets.

· Buy products that are made from recycled materials or buy in bulk to reduce the amount of packaging.

· Throw your trash in the trash can. Trash thrown on the streets leads to the storm drains and ultimately the ocean.

· Put your cigarette butts in the ash tray. More marine animals get harmed by cigarette butts than any other piece of trash.
