Summer Contemplations from an RHA Volunteer
As the cold water of winter disappears and the sun begins to shine again, I, as a Manhattan Beach resident and volunteer at the Roundhouse, begin to wonder what lies ahead for our ocean ecosystem this summer, and what I can do to facilitate its positive growth. With an increase in beachgoers by the day, an increase in ocean pollution follows. We need to be more proactive not only this summer, but continuously in order to ensure that our beaches stay clean and healthy so that we may continue to enjoy them for many years to come. Whether that means picking up trash in the street, recycling, or donating to eco-friendly organizations, whatever you can do to reduce your ecological footprint is a step in the right direction, and a message and inspiration for others to do the same.
For those who preach being more “green,” why just stop at words? Go out and get actively involved in protecting your ocean. By doing this, you can help make a difference on this Earth, and we as a community can show the world what is possible when people genuinely care about the environment. This July, bring your kids and come down to the Roundhouse to learn more about the animals in the ocean and what you can do individually and as a community to make a difference in your beach!
